"Lessons From Palestine For A Social Justice Future"
Presenter: Daniel A. Sagal
Daniel A. Segal is the Jean M. Pitzer professor of anthropology and professor of history at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA. He has published on racial discourses and practices in Trinidad, social hierarchies in Jane Austen's novels, and the history and politics of undergraduate textbooks. He also curated two art exhibits, one of Caribbean Art and a second of art by Indigenous artists from the Brazilian Amazon. He is the acting president of the Claremont Colleges AAUP and serves on the
coordinating committee of Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles, the USACBI (US Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel) organizing collective, and the board of TIAA-DIVEST! In the summer of 2018, he had the privilege of being on a study tour across the illegally occupied West Bank of Palestine, and he will draw on those experiences in this talk.
