SHERBECK FIELD – Several community members addressed the Board expressing their concerns with the proposed Fullerton College Sherbeck Field improvements.
DACA – Fullerton College Faculty Member Silvia Pimentel approached the Board to discuss the DACA resolution.
Chancellor’s Report – Dr. Cheryl A. Marshall
COMMENDATION – Dr. Marshall honored Cypress College Diversity and Inclusiveness Award Recipient and dance professor Maha Afra.
ACCREDITATION – The Chancellor commended the Colleges on the accommodations that they received from the visiting accreditation teams.

Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
ACCREDITATION – The President reported on the success of the recent accreditation visit… GUIDED PATHWAYS – Dr. Schilling gave an update on the Guided Pathways initiative. The College is completing a draft of their self-assessment report… EARTHQUAKE DRILL – Dr. Schilling reported participating in the annual Great ShakeOut Drill… LEADERSHIP ACADEMY – The President participated in the recent Leadership Academy session… COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS – Dr. Schilling attended several community partnership events including; Cyber Security Town Hall meeting; a Cypress College Foundation event; the Promise Program launch; and the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress’ annual gala.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
ACCREDITATION – The President reported on the success of the accreditation visit … EVENTS – Dr. Schulz reported on upcoming campus events including: the Día de los Muertos festival on October 26; a staff development comprehensive session on October 27; and the art exhibit beginning October 26…FOOTBALL – Dr. Schulz attended the homecoming game where the Hornets defeated Saddleback College 56-35. The team has qualified for the playoffs… GUIDED PATHWAYS – The President reported on Guided Pathways program efforts… PRESIDENT'S GALA – Dr. Schulz promoted the President’s Gala on November 11.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
HARVEST FESTIVAL – The Provost reported on NOCE’s community Harvesting Opportunities Event… FASTRACK – Ms. Purtell promoted the NOCE FasTrack events on October 27 and 30… NEW SURVEY AND CLUB – The Provost reported that the first Campus Climate Survey is live and the first Student Club has been formed… LEGISLATOR VISIT – The Provost reported that a field representative from Senator Feinstein’s office toured NOCE to get more information on noncredit programs… ANAHEIM PLEDGE MEETING – The Provost attended a meeting with Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) to discuss how NOCE could participate in the Anaheim Pledge… STRONG WORKFORCE PROGRAM – The Provost reported on the Strong Workforce Program Regional Project Application. Approval is scheduled for November 15.

DMA MEETING – Former District Management Association President Olivia Veloz reported that the DMA will hold its fall business meeting on Friday, October 27.
DACA – Cypress College Academic Senate President Bryan Seiling reported on the group passing a resolution supporting DACA students, and shared some comments on the recent accreditation visit. He also reported on Guided Pathways initiatives.
SENATE UPDATE – Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller reported that the Senate has finished their faculty priority process, and that they are creating a task force to analyze the possibility of a winter intersession.
DACA – United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported establishing an LGBTQ and a diversity committee. He also reported on current elections and ongoing benefits negotiations.
BOARD POLICIES – CSEA President Rod Lusch commented on Board Policies within the agenda.
Comments by Members of the Board of Trustees
ASSOCIATED STUDENTS – Cypress College Student Trustee Daniel Sebastian reported on student events including: Cypress College Pumpkin Bash; peace awareness and food insecurity awareness events; and the Student Leadership Conference.
CAMPUS EVENTS – Fullerton College Student Trustee Andrew Washington reported on campus events including: an Umoja event forum; Fullerton College Night at an Anaheim Ducks game; and the wellness symposium.
FOOTBALL – Board Member Stephen T. Blount reported on attending the Fullerton College football game. Trustee Ryan Bent reported that he would address the Sherbeck Field discussion at a later time.
RETIREMENT BOARD MEETING – Board Vice President Jaqueline Rodarte reported attending the Retirement Board Meeting and the Harvesting Opportunities event. She also spoke about mentoring a Fullerton student in the Puente Program.
ACCREDITATION – Board Member Barbara Dunshealth congratulated the colleges on accreditation visits and reported attending her first meeting for the ACCJC as a new commissioner.
NEWS ARTICLE – Board President Molly McClanahan reported on an article in the LA Times featuring Fullerton College alum John Rodrigues, the founder of ThinkLexic which advocates for dyslexic students.
Finance and Facilities
BUDGET CALENDAR – The Board reviewed the calendar for the 2018-19 budget.
SURPLUS AUCTION – The Board declared the attached list of items surplus and for the Liquidation Company to conduct an auction for the sale of the surplus items. Proceeds collected by the auction company will be split between the District (55%) and the auction company (45%).
CCAP PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT – The Board ratified the amended 2017-18 NOCCCD and Anaheim Union High School District College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) Dual Enrollment Partnership Agreement.
RETIREMENTS – The Board approved the change of retirement date for Ruth Egigian, Fullerton College Foreign Language Instructor, from June 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018.
RESOLUTION NO. 17/18-03 – The Board adopted Resolution No. 17/18-03, In Support of Preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program following a 6:1 vote.
RESOLUTION NO. 17/18-06 – The Board adopted Resolution No. 17/18-06 to declare that the week of November 13-17, 2017 be observed as Veteran’s Appreciation Week.
BOARD POLICIES – The Board received as a first reading the proposed, revised Board Policies in Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
The next regular meeting of the NOCCCD Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, in the first-floor Board Room, Anaheim Campus, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim.
