VETERANS WEEK ACTIVITIES – Fullerton College Student and Veterans Club President Albert Martinez updated the Board on Veterans Week activities, including a BBQ and the screening of the documentary “Field of Heroes.”

CYPRESS COLLEGE ANNUAL REPORT AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS REPORT – Cypress College President Bob Simpson presented the College’s annual report and institutional effectiveness report. Among the many highlights were construction projects; work on the baccalaureate degree pilot program; efforts in diversity, inclusiveness, and equity; and the number of degrees and certificates awarded.

Superintendents Breakfast – Approximately 40 representatives from local high school districts attended the college’s annual Superintendents/Principals Breakfast. Information was shared on the dual enrollment activities, Strong Workforce initiatives, and construction…Americana Kick Off – The Foundation will host the Americana Kick Off event on November 9 at the Park Avenue Restaurant. Citizens of the Year and Woman of the Year, Ms. Catherine Sorensen, will be introduced…Polling Place – The Theater Lobby served as a polling place for election day, and has had a significant amount of community and student traffic…Community Advisory Meeting – The Mortuary Science department hosted their annual Community Advisory meeting to welcome approximately 15 members of the local funeral services industry to the College…Athletics – Women’s Volleyball remains #1 in the Orange Empire Conference and Women’s Soccer is currently in second place.

Veterans Week – The Veterans Resource Center placed 6,860 flags throughout the Quad to honor fallen service members since 9/11. Additional activities are planned for the week, and the schedule can be found at http://veterans.fullcoll.edu/...Top Transfer Institution – The College is once again a top transfer institution into Cal State Fullerton, with 675 transfer students enrolling this fall…EIR Forum – An Environmental Impact Report Scoping Forum will be held on November 17…Ethnic Studies – The Ethnic Studies department will host a People’s Intervention for Liberation, Autonomy and Self Determination Summit on November 18…LiveWire – A reading featuring writers and artists from the recent issue of LiveWire will take place on November 16…Athletics – Women’s Water Polo advanced to the Southern California Championships. The football team defeated Orange Coast College 35-14.

Student Equity Conference – Nearly 100 guests attended the inaugural SCE Student Equity Conference: Embedding Student Equity in SCE Culture…WASC Accreditation Update – The WASC Accreditation Visiting Chair Leanne Greenlee visited SCE for a one-day pre-visit. SCE staff and faculty will continue to prepare for the accreditation visit over the next few months...SCE Holiday Event – The SCE annual holiday event will take place on November 29 at the Anaheim Campus…ESL Performance – The ESL Anaheim Players Group have produced a series of videos title “Not for Girls Only,” depicting interactions among women in various life situations...WIOA Regional Plan Developed – AEBG Special Projects Director Jesse Crete represented the North Orange County Regional Consortium in developing the Regional Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) Plan for Orange County.

RECENT EVENTS – District Management Association President Olivia Veloz reported on several recent events, including: the Cypress College Fall Research Symposium, the SCE Student Equity Conference, and the CSEA Classified Recognition Award.
WASC PRE-VISIT – SCE Senate President Adam Gottdank gave an update on the school’s recent WASC pre-visit introduction with Accreditation Chair Leanne Greenlee. Recommendations were given to the site and a to-do list has been created.
CYPRESS COLLEGE ANNUAL REPORT – Cypress College Senate President Bryan Seiling congratulated the college on producing an excellent 2015-16 Annual Report. Kudos were given to Marc Posner, Director of Campus Communications and Phil Dykstra, Director of Research & Planning.
STRONG WORKFORCE GRANT – Fullerton College Senate President Pete Snyder commented on the abundance of state money being allocated for Strong Workforce Development. He said that many CTE programs would be applying for funds.
JOINT UF/SENATE MEETING – United Faculty President Tina Johannsen announced that the joint UF and Academic Senate meeting would be held in January 2017.
VETERANS APPRECIATION – California Schools Employee Association President Rod Lusch stated how proud he was of the District for the attention it’s giving veterans.
NEGOTIATIONS – Adjunct Faculty United President Kent Stevenson reported that the group has held two negotiation meeting so far this year with the District, and things are progressing nicely.
Comments by Members of the Board of Trustees
CAMPUS EVENTS – Student Trustee Tanya Washington reported on campus events, including: the Umoja conference, Veterans Week activities, Annual Food Drive, and the kickoff for Americana.
VETERANS SUPPORT – Student Trustee Scott Begneski thanked the campuses and District for their support of veterans.
CYPRESS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE – Trustee Stephen T. Blount complimented Dr. Bob Simpson on his presentation to the Cypress Chamber of Commerce.
DiIA DE LOS MUERTOS – Board Vice President Molly McClanahan congratulated Fullerton College on a successful and fun Dia De Los Muertos event.
WELCOME GUESTS – Trustee Leonard Lahtinen welcomed the various guests in the Board Room, including Trustee Candidate Ed Lopez.
CCLC CONFERENCE – Board President Barbara Dunsheath announced that the District will have a group presenting on Strategic Conversations at next week’s Community College League of California’s conference.
Finance and Facilities
TRANSFERS – The Board approved the 2016-17 General Fund, Bond Building Fund, and Capital Outlay Fund transfers and adopted a resolution showing the summary.
QUARTERLY STATEMENTS – The Board reviewed the District’s Quarterly Financial Status Report and received the Quarterly Investment Report, both for the quarter ended September 30, 2016.
TRAVEL EXPENSE REPORT – The Board received the 2015-16 Travel Expense Report.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION PHASE AGREEMENT – The Board authorized entering into a pre-construction phase agreement to begin the constructability process of the new Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Building and new Veterans’ Resource Center, which includes the Renovation of the Student Activities Center Building at Cypress College.
MID-TERM EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN REVIEW – The Board approved the final report of the Mid-Term Educational Master Plan Review and Update.
CURRICULUM – The Board approved the curriculum changes for Cypress College and Fullerton College, both to be effective fall 2017.
RETIREMENTS – The Board approved the retirements of Erica Bennett, Fullerton College Librarian, effective February 25, 2017; Robert Johnson, Cypress College Photography Instructor, effective June 9, Peggy Brown, District Payroll Specialist, effective August 1, 2017; Pamela Ingles, Fullerton College Administrative Assistant III, effective February 1, 2017; and Gail Smead, Cypress College Administrative Assistant II, effective, December 31, 2016.
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING – The Board scheduled on the agenda for November 22, 2016, the establishment of December 13, 2016 as the date of its Organizational Meeting.
GOVERNING BOARD PROTOCOLS – The Board received and approved the recommended Governing Board Protocols and considered the Board Protocol Subcommittee recommendation.
