The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security designated Cypress College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education through the 2023 academic year for the Associate in Science, Cybersecurity Program. Cypress College will be formally recognized for this accomplishment at a designation ceremony on November 7, 2018 at the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education Conference in Miami, Florida.

The Cybersecurity Program at Cypress College recognizes the importance of higher education as a solution to defending America's cyberspace and addresses the need for professionals with the skills necessary to protect the National Information Infrastructure. The program provides concepts and hands-on skills to identify cybersecurity threats and implement procedures to protect cyber assets. It enhances the opportunity for students to pursue a professional career in cybersecurity by preparing them for industry-recognized certificates such as Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security.
