Event Details | Black History Month wouldn’t have been possible without Negro History Week’s creation in the United States in 1926. It all began with an idea by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, that emerged from frustration and the belief that Black people should know their past in order to participate intelligently in society. This session provided an overview of how Black History Month was created, who created it, and shed light on the important outcome.

Event Details | Professor Esther Villegas-Sandoval from College of the Sequoias will outline seven (7) major shared themes in this session, including: the coming out and "the undocumented closet"; the various stages of fear; inconsistent communication with parents; and much, much more. A huge "Thank you" to Professor Villegas-Sandoval for providing such valuable information on this very relevant and important topic.

Event Details | The second part of a 2-part series presented by Professor Esther Villegas-Sandoval from College of the Sequoias. Participants learned how to identify and implement practical tips for fostering a trauma-informed approach in learning settings. This workshop concluded by discussing joy, allyship, and compassion fatigue.  Trauma-informed practices are instrumental in ensuring all learners and participants gain access to educational material and resources being provided. This workshop will focus on trauma-informed practices and how educators/admin/staff can respond to students.  We'll focus on how to identify, lead, and implement trauma informed practices.
