Black History Month wouldn’t have been possible without Negro History Week’s creation in the United States in 1926. It all began with an idea by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, that emerged from frustration and the belief that Black people should know their past in order to participate intelligently in society. This session will provide an overview of how Black History Month was created, who created it, and shed light on the important outcome.

History professor Michael Felix from College of the Canyons will present this topic over Zoom.
