NOCCCD Sustainability Director Updates: Summer 2026

By Tyler Deacy

The District Sustainability department shares updates as of July 2026.

2026 NOCCCD Greenhouse Gas Report

This quarter, the primary focus of the Sustainability Office has been on drafting the 2026 NOCCCD Greenhouse Gas Report. The state chancellor’s office has tasked campuses with conducting emissions inventory baselines and creating a climate action plan by this year. The NOCCCD Sustainability Action Plan was created before this full assessment, but we will use the data to adjust some of our goals and timelines to reflect the actual sources of greenhouse gases across the campuses.

More information will be available in the full report, but we can share some of the findings on the multi-year data points as a sneak peek.

For example, the purchased electricity contribution this year has dropped by around 300 metric tons of CO2e (all greenhouse gasses converted to their equivalent as CO2, then combined). That’s around a 5% reduction compared to last year! Our data District-wide doesn’t go back before the pandemic, since we started tracking in the 2020/21 fiscal year, but old records from Fullerton College indicate we’re sitting around 9-10% lower than pre-pandemic electricity consumption.

Another interesting data point is that the emissions from staff commuting have been dramatically decreased compared to pre-pandemic data. The percentage of days staff work from home (WFH) has dropped off since the peak of 2020 but has remained well and above where it was in 2018 and 2019. These days at home make a huge difference for our emissions, cutting the contribution of staff commuting by over 20%! The graph below illustrates what percentage of work days are done from home.
