APIDA Resource Center Grand Opening at Fullerton College

By Miranda Marquez

On October 30th, 2024, Fullerton College gained a major resource for its Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) population with the opening of their new APIDA Resource Center for faculty, staff and students.

The new APIDA Resource Center is located in Building 100 in Room 121 and aims to provide resources, programming, and a safe place for APIDA students to gather, relax, and study. APIDA students are encouraged to visit the center and meet the APIDA Amplified team there as well as faculty and other students to build community and make friends. The opening of the center was celebrated with complimentary food and performances in the quad as well as a ceremonial ribbon cutting to close out this year’s celebration of Filipino American History Month. The event was sponsored by the APIDA Amplified Team and the Ethnic Studies Department.

“We want for the center to be a space of joy, rest, relaxation and gathering,” said APIDA Amplified Team Project Director, Dr. Rosie Kar. “President Cynthia Olivo was kind enough to provide us with a stunning room with gorgeous natural lighting, and we are lucky to be in proximity to Puente and the Rising Scholars spaces. The team created a list of community guidelines, the first of which is requesting our visitors to practice radical empathy with everybody.”

The center features plush lounges, a coffee and tea bar, an APIDA library, art, and the Amplified Team. It can be accessed Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and virtually Mondays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Fridays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to supporting their community, the goal of APIDA is to recognize students who represent the APIDA spirit, their accomplishments, and award scholarships to exceptional students. To see their latest events visit their Instagram here: Instagram
