Chancellor’s Report – Dr. Cheryl A. Marshall
ACCREDITATION – Dr. Marshall welcomed and thanked the accreditation team members for their work during their visit. She also shared her support for those affected by the tragedy in Las Vegas and the Anaheim Canyon Fire.
Comments from the College Presidents and Provost
Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
LAS VEGAS– Dr. Schilling reported providing counseling in the wake of the Las Vegas tragedy and reported on the loss of former student Andrea Castilla… ACCREDITATION – The President reported on the ongoing accreditation visit… GUIDED PATHWAYS – The College sent a team to the IEPI Guided Pathways workshop in Irvine on September 28 where they began the first draft of the self- assessment… CAMPUS ACTIVITIES – The President reported on campus events including: the Buen Cypress campaign starting in November; the Cypress Women’s Conference on September 27; and the Cypress College Foundation Golf Tournament on October 2... COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS – Dr. Schilling reported on current community partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress and the Cypress Mayor’s Office.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
ACCREDITATION – Dr. Schulz reported on the accreditation visit from the Accreditation Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). The visit concludes October 12… EMERGENCY RESOURCES – Dr. Schulz reported providing support and counseling to those impacted by the Canyon Fire and the Las Vegas Shooting… MANUFACTURING DAY – The President reported on campus events including Manufacturing Day and the Orange County Counselor Symposium on October 6… EARTHQUAKE DRILL – The President reported the College will participate in the Great ShakeOut Drill on October 19… CAMPUS EVENTS – Dr. Schulz reported on upcoming campus events this month including: the 7th Annual LGBTQ Students Forum; Wellness Symposium; and the Ethnic Studies Summit.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
MANUFACTURING WEEK – The Provost reported on the National Manufacturing Week festivities… GUIDED PATHWAYS – NOCE Managers and Faculty attended the California Community College’s (CCC) Guided Pathways Initiative regional training on September 28… SYMPOSIUM OUTREACH – The Provost reported on the Orange County Counselor Symposium where NOCE shared their programs and services with attendees… ONLINE PLACEMENT TESTING – The ESL Program successfully tested the use of Android tablets for online placement testing at community-based locations… LAS VEGAS – The Provost reported on the loss of NOCE student Rocio Guillen in the Las Vegas tragedy… NOCE EVENTS – The Provost reported on upcoming events including: Ferpa Training Workshops this October; High School Information Night on October 23; the Harvesting Opportunities event on October 21; and the NOCE “FasTrack” events on October 27 and 30.
Comments by Members of the Resource Table
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – District Management Association President Eldon Young reported that the group is planning professional development activities based off surveys completed during the managers’ retreat.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR – NOCE Academic Senate President Adam Gottdank reported on the possibility of switching to a semester calendar, the success of the Anaheim Pledge Launch Event, and a DACA resolution the Senate passed in support of students.
ACCREDITATION – Cypress College Academic Senate President Bryan Seiling reported on the accreditation visit. He also stated that the group was working on a resolution to support DACA students.
FULLERTON SENATE UPDATE – Fullerton College Academic Senate Former President Pete Snyder gave an update on accreditation. He also reported that counseling faculty attended the Guided Pathways Workshop.
DACA – United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported passing a resolution supporting DACA students, and sending out election announcements for available positions within United Faculty.
ANAHEIM PLEDGE – CSEA President Rod Lusch reported on the success of the Anaheim Pledge Launch Event and the ongoing accreditation visit.

ASSOCIATED STUDENTS – Cypress College Student Trustee Daniel Sebastian reported on current AS projects including the blood drive and working with IT to get charging stations on campus.
CAMPUS EVENTS – Fullerton College Student Trustee Andrew Washington reported on campus events including club rush, the LGBTQ forum, and the Ethnic Studies Summit.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETING – Board Member Stephen T. Blount reported attending at School Board Association meeting and the Anaheim Pledge Launch Event.
LAS VEGAS – Board Member Ryan Bent shared his support of those affected by the Las Vegas Shooting and the Anaheim Hills Fire.
ANAHEIM PLEDGE – Board Vice President Jaqueline Rodarte thanked the campuses for updating students during the Las Vegas Shooting and the Anaheim Canyon Fire. She also reported on the success of the Anaheim Pledge Launch Event and invited everyone to attend the Fullerton College President’s Gala.
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT – Board Member Barbara Dunshealth reported attending an Advisory Committee on Education Services (ACES) committee meeting.
TRUSTEE ABSENCE – Board President Molly McClanahan thanked Trustees Rodarte and Bent for replacing her in the September Board Meetings and the Accreditation Dialogue during her absence.
Finance and Facilities
PURCHASE ORDERS AND CHECKS – The Board ratified purchase orders and checks. (The Purchase Orders and Checks are available for review in the District’s Business Office.)
TRAVEL EXPENSE REPORT – The Board received this agenda item for information only regarding the 2016-2017 Travel Expense Report.
CONTRACTING METHOD RESOLUTION – The Board adopted a resolution approving the use of the design-build contracting method for the New Instructional Building at Fullerton College. (The Resolution is available for review in the District’s Business Office.)
NOTICE OF COMPLETION – The Board authorized the request to file the Notice of Completion for RFP #2016-01, Cypress College Central Plant and Thermal Energy Storage Project, with Plumbing, Piping & Construction, Inc. and pay the final retention payment when due.
SERVICE AGREEMENT AMENDMENT – The Board authorized the request to amend the testing service agreement with Koury Engineering & Testing, Inc. for the Cypress College Central Plant & Thermal Energy Storage Tank project.
CONSULTING CONTRACT – The Board awarded the contract for the Network Refresh – Design Phase to Shandam Consulting
CONTRACT AGREEMENTS – The Board authorized to enter into agreements with Civitas Learning, Inc. for the Illume Insights Platform and with Collaborative Brain Trust to provide Organizational Structure Review Services.
CURRICULUM CHANGES – The Board approved the summary of curriculum changes for Cypress College, effective Fall 2018.
RETROACTIVE AUTHORIZATION – The Board granted retroactive authorization of the request for one full time anthropology professor who attended the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology in Vancouver, BC, Canada from March 29, 2017 to April 2, 2017.
DONATION APPROVAL – The Board authorized the requested for Fullerton College to accept donations to its divisions, departments, and library.
PRESIDENT'S GALA – The Board allowed the Fullerton College Foundation to host the President’s Gala on the Fullerton College campus on November 11, 2017, and allow them to serve alcoholic beverages to attendees.
RETIREMENT – The Board approved the change of retirement date for Ruth Egigian, Fullerton College Foreign Language Instructor, from June 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018.
PROMOTIONS – The Board approved the promotions of Elaine Lipiz-Gonzalez to Fullerton College Dean of Student Support Services and Michelle Bandak to Cypress College Accounting Specialist.
RESOLUTION NO. 17/18-03 – The Board received for a first reading Resolution No. 17/18-03, In Support of Preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program.
