Comments from Members of the Audience

CYPRESS COLLEGE PUENTE PROGRAM – Two people praised the Cypress College Puente Program and expressed their support of an English Instructor.

LIBRARIANS' WORK WEEK – Cypress College English Instructor Christie Diep and Fullerton College Professor Dale Craig both spoke on the topic of the librarians’ work week.

Interim Chancellor’s Report – Fred Williams

FACULTY ACHIEVING TENURE – The following faculty were introduced to the Board by the college presidents as achieving tenure: 
Cypress College: Russ Bacarella in Automotive Technology and Roberta Lawrence in Health Sciences.
Fullerton College: Dr. Bruce Cordell in Natural Sciences.

Dr. Bob Simpson, Cypress College President; Dr. Greg Schulz, School of Continuing Education Provost; and Dr. Rajen Vurdien, Fullerton College President, reported on activities from their respective campus.

Comments by Members of the Resource Table

DMA END OF YEAR EVENT – District Management Association President Richard Fee said that the group’s end of the year event would take place on Thursday, June 4 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Buena Park Holiday Inn.

TRANSITION NIGHT – SCE Academic Senate President Adam Gottdank reported on the recent Disabled Support Services Transition Night, which brought together over 500 attendees and 50 service providers.

FACULTY AWARD RECIPIENTS – Cypress College Academic Senate President Jolena Grande announced the winners of the 2015 Faculty Awards, including: Dee Sato, Biology Professor and Outstanding Faculty Award recipient; Emma Anton, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Professor and Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award recipient; and Peter Mathews, Political Science Professor and Charger Award recipient.

FULLERTON COLLEGE EVENTS – Fullerton College Faculty Senate President Sam Foster reported on recent campus events including the Natural Sciences Open House Consortium event and the Foundation Banquet.

FACULTY NEGOTIATIONS – United Faculty President Dale Craig commented that negotiations with the District have been proceeding with the parties involved agreeing on most items. He stated that he is confident an agreement will be reached in the next couple of weeks.

Comments by Members of the Board of Trustees

CYPRESS COLLEGE STUDENT EVENTS – Cypress College Student Trustee Tiana Buttice reported on recent activities, including: the Associated Students’ Worldfest, Safe Sex Day, Parent Night, and Sexual Assault month.

FULLERTON CONGRATULATIONS – Fullerton College Student Trustee Stephen Tith said congratulations to Tiana for getting into UC Berkley, to Darlene Jensen for her upcoming retirement, and to President Rajen Vurdien for accepting the Superintendent/CEO position at Pasadena City College.

CAMPUS TOURS – Trustee Jacqueline Rodarte thanked both Cypress College President Bob Simpson and Fullerton College President Rajen Vurdien for arranging campus tours for her.

DISTRICT AUDIT COMMITTEE – Trustee Donna Miller reported on her attendance at her first District Audit Committee meeting. She said that it was very productive.

CYPRESS COLLEGE FOUNDATION – Board Vice President Barbara Dunsheath spoke about the recent Cypress College Foundation meeting. Topics included the campuses’ 50th Anniversary Celebration and the “Spring for Cypress” fundraising campaign.

MEASURE J FORUMS – Board Secretary Molly McClanahan thanked Fullerton College President Rajen Vurdien for doing such an excellent job at the campuses’ recent Measure J Forums.

CHANCELLOR FINALIST FORUMS – Trustee Leonard Lahtinen invited everyone to attend the Chancellor Finalist Forums to be held Tuesday, May 12. He stated that the Board is very anxious for feedback from employees. Trustee Jeff Brown concurred with Mr. Lahtinen.

Finance & Facilities

ANAHEIM CAMPUS – The Board authorized an agreement with R2A Architecture to provide design development, construction documents, construction administration and DSA certification services for the first floor warehouse area.

Human Resources

RETIREMENTS – The Board approved the retirements of Steven Credidio, Fullerton College Counselor, effective June 4; Paul McKinley, Fullerton College Director of Disabled Student Programs and Services, effective October 1, Shawn Quirk, Fullerton College English Instructor, effective June 1; and Perla Fickenscher, SCE TDI Manager, REBRAC, effective July 1.

PROMOTION – The Board approved the promotion of AeYoung Kim-Shepard to Cypress College Executive Assistant, effective April 29.

GENERAL RESOLUTIONS – The Board adopted Resolution No. 14/15-07, declaring the week of May 4-8 as Teacher Appreciation Week, and Resolution No. 14/15-08, declaring the week of May 17-23 as Classified School Employee Week.

Next Regular Meeting

The next regular meeting of the NOCCCD Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the first-floor Board Room, Anaheim Campus, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim.
