SHERBECK FIELD – Two Fullerton residents spoke on the impact of bleachers and lights to Sherbeck Field at Fullerton College.
DACA – Fullerton College faculty urged the Board of Trustees to continue to support students benefitting from DACA. Speakers included: Maria Leonor Cadena; Karen Markley; Mohammad Abel Haq; and Silvia Pimentel.
Chancellor’s Report – Dr. Cheryl A. Marshall
EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR – Certificates of Commendation were presented to the 2017 Outstanding Employees at Cypress College, Fullerton College, and North Orange Continuing Education. Recognized were: Susan Johnson, Michael Hannah, and Massoud Saleh from Cypress College; Mareike Claassen, David Cook, Lisa McPheron, Ken Starkman, and Doug Benoit from Fullerton College; and Martha Gutierrez, Chelsea Salisbury, Joel Baca, and Santiago Loayza from North Orange Continuing Education.
SABBATICAL REPORTS – Liliana Barabas, Fullerton College Instructor, presented her sabbatical report “Undergraduate Research Activities in Astronomy at Fullerton College,” and Deidre Porter, Cypress College Instructor, presented “Addressing the Low Number of African American Students in STEM.”

Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
COMMUNITY COLLEGE RANKING – Cypress College was named the number one community college in the state of California by Niche, Inc… ENROLLMENT – Dr. Schilling reported that fall enrollment has stabilized… ACCREDITATION – Dr. Schilling reported on accreditation efforts… DACA – The President reported on campus efforts to help undocumented students following the rescinding of DACA… CAMPUS MIXERS – Dr. Schilling reported attending mixer events for the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) and the United AdFac Mixer… COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS – Dr. Schilling reported on current community partnerships with the Cypress Chamber of Commerce and the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
MEASURE J – The Measure J bond allows Fullerton College to roll-out a comprehensive construction and renovation project plan over the next 20 years. The Draft Program Environmental Impact Report review period ends October 1… ANAHEIM PLEDGE – The Fullerton College community will be attend the Anaheim Union Educational Pledge Signing Ceremony at Kennedy High School… ACCREDITATION – Dr. Schulz reported on the accreditation pre-visit and how the campus is preparing for the visit in October… DACA – Dr. Schulz reported on college efforts following the rescinding of DACA… TRANSCRIPTS – Starting September 19 Fullerton College will use an online transcript ordering service.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
BRAND LAUNCH ACTIVITIES – The Provost gave an update on the NOCE Brand Launch and outreach efforts…BRAND LAUNCH – The SCE website has now transitioned to www.noce.edu. The brand launch video is featured on the website and emails will transition on October 1… REGIONAL PLAN APPROVAL – The North Orange County Regional Consortium (NOCRC) Executive Committee approved the 2017/2018 Regional Adult Education Plan… DACA – The Provost gave an update on how NOCE is supporting DACA students.

SUPPORT FOR DACA STUDENTS – District Management Association President Eldon Young and Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller commended campus efforts in response to the Federal government rescinding the DACA program. NOCE Academic Senate member Alli Stanojkovic reported working with Fullerton College and Cypress College to draft a new resolution to reaffirm support for DACA students. United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported that the group is working on a draft resolution in support of DACA students.
CYPRESS ACADEMIC SENATE - Cypress College Academic Senate President Bryan Seiling reported on current Academic Senate projects, including guided pathways, dual enrollment, and an IEPI meeting.
ADFAC EVENT – Adjunct Faculty United President Kent Stevenson reported on the success of the recent AdFac event. He thanked Trustees Stephen T. Blount and Jeffrey Brown, as well as Cypress College President JoAnna Schilling for attending.

STUDENT EVENTS – Cypress College Student Trustee Daniel Sebastian and Fullerton College Student Trustee Andrew Washington reported on the current student events on the campuses.
OCLTF – Board Member Stephen T. Blount reported attending an Orange County Legislative Task Force meeting (OCLTF).
TRAINING MODULE – Board of Trustees Vice President Jaqueline Rodarte reminded Board Members to compete their ACCJC Training Module by October 1.
Finance and Facilities
CONTRACT AMMENDMENT– The Board authorized the request to amend the contract with Real Synergism Inc. to include an hourly rate of $125 for project management services and increase the annual contract amount from $158,000 to $200,000, inclusive of reimbursable.
Human Resources
RETIREMENTS – The Board approved the retirement of Kathryn Zerba, NOCE Instructional Aid, effective September 1.
General
NEW BOARD POLICY – The Board approved the new Board Policy 7160, Professional Development by a 4:1 vote.
TRUSTEE ABSENCE RESOLUTION – The Board adopted Resolution No. 17/18-02, Trustee Absence, verifying that Trustee Molly McClanahan was absent on September 12, 2017 and September 26, 2017 due to hardship.
CITIZENS' OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE – The Board approved the recommendation that Sana Abbaali and Kevin Carr be appointed to serve for a term of two years, and for a maximum of three consecutive terms, without compensation, on the Citizens’ Oversight Committee for the North Orange County Community College District bond projects.
DACA – The Board received an informational update on District efforts related to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. Trustee Rodarte motioned for the District to draft a resolution in support of DACA recipients similar to the resolution implemented by the Board of Governors. She will work with District staff and bring a draft to a future Board meeting.
