Last year, NOCCCD signed on as a partner to the Anaheim Union Educational Pledge to transform the lives of students through education and economic advancement. A dynamic partnership between the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), NOCCCD, CSUF, UCI, Orange County United Way, and the City of Anaheim, this new program guarantees all eligible AUHSD students one year of free tuition to attend Cypress College, Fullerton College, or North Orange Continuing Education.
On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, both Cypress College and Fullerton College held their first-ever “Pledge Night” which welcomed the first cohort of incoming AUHSD students to the campus of their choice. The simultaneous events were both incredible successes, with more than 800 students and their families attending the Cypress College activities and another 800 visiting Fullerton College. The attendance was so massive, in fact, that both schools had to open additional rooms for the overflow of interested people.
Cypress College President JoAnna Schilling, Ph.D. said that seeing this effort come to fruition is “indeed the reason we got into this line of work.” Both she and NOCCCD Chancellor Dr. Cheryl Marshall thanked the team of employees across the District and community who made the Pledge a reality.
Fullerton College President Greg Schulz, Ph.D. expressed, “We are thrilled to welcome these Anaheim Pledge scholars to Fullerton College. It was extremely gratifying to visit with the students and their families throughout the Pledge Night event.”
“Tonight was one of those nights I’ve dreamed of as an educator,” said Dr. Marshall. “Walking into rooms filled with Pledge students and their parents was exhilarating.”
In addition to the welcome and college overview, to ensure a smooth start to their collegiate experience, students had the opportunity to meet with support staff in programs such as Counseling, EOPS, Disability Support Services, and Financial Aid.
