TRUSTEE CANDIDATES – Several people spoke on behalf of two of the five Board of Trustee candidates. Leroy Mills and Raul Alvarez urged the Board to vote for George O’Hara, while Chris Norby, Reza Mirbein, Hamid Aciminia, Arman Salehi, Nora Merasia, and Judith Padilla spoke on behalf of Al Salehi. Consideration of Applicants for Appointment to the Board of Trustees Vacancy, Area 3 The Board interviewed George O’ Hara, Steve Blount, Daniel Billings, Jon Hultman, and Al Salehi. After discussion, the Board unanimously voted to appoint Daniel Billings to Trustee Area 3 through November 2016. He will be officially seated at the October 13 Board Meeting, after a 30 day waiting period.
Interim Chancellor’s Report – Fred Williams
Mr. Williams thanked Greg Schulz and Lisa McPheron for a tour of the campus during the first week of classes. It was a great opportunity to see first -hand the wonderful things that our staff and faculty do to help our students be successful.
Comments from the College Presidents and Provost
Cypress College – Dr. Bob Simpson, President
FALL 2015 – Faculty and staff were welcomed back at Friday’s Opening Day ceremony. In addition, approximately 4 00 new Chargers attended the New Student Welcome Night. Fall enrollment continues to climb, with 480 more unduplicated students than this time last year…SUMMER BOOST – Data is being examined on the college’s support programs, particularly the second year of Summer Boost. This program assists students in math and English with a two-week refresher course if they place below their high school course work level. Because of Summer Boost, students have placed one to three levels higher than when they began, saving both time and money, and allowing additional seats for other students…SUCCESS RATES – The Health Sciences Division continues to exceed the national and state exam success rates, as well as a 100% pass rate in the dental hygiene program… WOMAN OF THE YEAR – Ms. Lisa Fujimoto was selected as the 2016 Americana Woman of the Year. She is a dedicated and effective community advocate, and currently leads the Change a Life Foundation, which assists families in need.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz , Interim President
FALL 2015 – Currently, the unduplicated headcount is 24,986, compared to 25,167 this time last year, with 92% of available seats filled. Fall Convocation took place on Friday and included a kick-off to the college’ s 2017 Accreditation…NEW FACULTY – 44 new full -time faculty participated in the new faculty orientation workshop on August 20, and their biographies are available on the Fullerton College News Center website… PRESIDENT'S OFFICE HOUR – In addition to the President’s Open Forums, the first President’s Office Hour will take place on September 2 at 12:30 p.m. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to visit and share what’s on their minds…SMART START SATURDAY – Nearly 800 new students and their families attended the annual Smart Start Saturday event on August 15. Students were able to take campus tours, purchase books, and pick up their campus ID’s…CELEBRATION OF LIFE – The Coach Hal Sherbeck Celebration of Life Event an d Sculpture Dedication will take place on Saturday, August 29.
School of Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Interim Provost
OPENING DAY – Opening Day will take place on September 11 at the Anaheim Campus. This year’s theme, “Every Student, Every Program, Every Day – the SCE Way,” will focus on putting students first through mindfulness and connectedness…ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT – Enrollment management will continue to be the focus of many activities involving the SCE leadership team, including the sharing of effective practices for using enrollment trends in planning the class schedule…ACCREDITATION – Planning for the next accreditation visit has begun. A website will launch when the self-study focus group membership is confirmed, with important dates and a virtual evidence room, among other elements.

FACULTY REPLACEMENTS – District Management Association President Richard Fee reported that he has had to find last minute replacements for three adjunct faculty members who were unable to start the semester as planned.
ACCREDITATION KICK-OFF – Fullerton College Faculty Senate President Pete Snyder gave an update on campus accreditation activities.
CONVOCATION – United Faculty President Tina Johannsen stated that Cypress College had a wonderful opening day, as well as that the UF executive board held their first meeting.
ADJUNCT FACULTY ACCOMODATION – Adjunct Faculty United Co-President Kent Stevenson asked the Board to look into the case of a Fullerton College professor who had an issue using sick time, and asked for an accommodation to be made so that the situation doesn’t happen again.

CCLC STUDENT TRUSTEE WORKSHOP – Both Cypress College Student Trustee Tanya Washington and Fullerton College Student Trustee Francisco Aviles-Pino reported on their attendance at the Community College League of California’s recent Student Trustee Workshop.
PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT – Trustee Jaqueline Rodarte congratulated provisional Board of Trustee Daniel Billings on his appointment.
CYPRESS COLLEGE FOUNDATION – Vice President Barbara Dunsheath reported on her attendance at the Cypress College Foundation meeting during which the 50th Anniversary of the college and Annual Golf Classic were discussed.
CYPRESS COLLEGE CONVOCATION – Board Secretary Molly McClanahan stated that Cypress College’s Opening Day event was well done, and that even the presentation on FTES was interesting.
FULLERTON COLLEGE CONVOCATION – Trustee Leonard Lahtinen said that Fullerton College’s Opening D ay was quite a celebration wit h all the new employees and had interesting information about the campuses’ accreditation plans.
Finance & Facilities
REPORTS – The Board reviewed the District’s Quarterly Financial Status Report and the Quarterly Investment Report, both for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.
RETIREMENTS – The Board approved the retirements of Philip Grisotti, Cypress College Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic, effective December 30, 2015; Roy Hurtado, Cypress College Equipment Operator, effective September 17, 2015; Mary Molina, Fullerton College Administrative Assistant II, effective September 1 , 2015; and Timothy Villagomez, Fullerton College HVAC Mechanic II, effective September 11, 2015.
TENTATIVE AGREEMENT – The Board approved the tentative agreement bet ween CSEA Chapter 167 and the District for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 fiscal years, inclusive of all terms and conditions specified in the written Agreement.
LEGISLATIVE TASK FORCE – The Board appointed Wayne Wedin as the District’s community representative on the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative Task Force for the 2015- 16 year.
REGIONAL CONSORTIUM – The Board appointed School of Continuing Education Provost Valentina Purtell as NOCCCD’s designee for the North Orange County Regional Consortium (NOCRC) for the 2015- 16 academic year.

The next regular meeting of the NOCCCD Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, in the first-floor Board Room, Anaheim Campus, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim.
