Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
NATIONAL CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE – Dr. Schilling announced that the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security designated Cypress College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education through the 2023 academic year for the Associate in Science, Cybersecurity Program… GRAB & GO CAMPAIGN – The President shared that faculty and staff welcomed students to the fall semester with Buen Cypress cookies and granola bars containing information on the campus Food Bank… GUEST SPEAKER – Dr. Schilling reported that civil rights activist Sylvia Mendez will speak at Cypress College on September 4, 2018 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
PROMOTION AT MOVIE THEATERS – Dr. Schulz announced that a 30 second Fullerton College promotional video will be shown for the next six months on 42 screens at the Edwards Brea and Fullerton AMC movie theaters… ONE THOUSAND ACTS OF KINDNESS – Dr. Schulz shared that the Classified Senate kicked off a campus-wide kindness campaign that recognizes individuals who perform random acts of kindness with a pin… FOOTBALL TEAM HONORED – The President reported that the Hornets football team was tabbed by the JC Athletic Bureau as the number one team in the golden state, as voted on by the California Community College football coaches.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
CTE EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES SURVEY – Ms. Purtell shared results and key findings from the statewide Career Technical Education Employment Outcomes Survey… STRONG WORKFORCE INITIATIVE UPDATES – The Provost updated the Board on Strong Workforce Initiative activities including a new SWI/CTE website and advertisement campaign and the opening of a new Career Resource Center at the Anaheim Campus… OPENING DAY – Ms. Purtell invited the Board to attend the 2018 NOCE Opening Day event at the Anaheim Campus on September 7, 2018.

DMA UPDATE – District Management Association President Richard Fee reported on the first DMA meeting of the year, including the development of an action plan and the incorporation of new technology for communication.
OPENING DAY – Cypress College Academic Senate President Craig Goralski shared Opening Day presentations including Senate goals and faculty recognized for high achievements.
RETREAT – Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller commented on the recent informal Senate retreat.
DISTRICT BALANCES – United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported that he believes part of the District's ending balances should be used for on-going increases.
STUDENT DEBT – Adjunct Faculty United President Kent Stevenson shared that he has been surveying his pre-college level students and has found that many students have large amounts of student loan debt or plan to apply for student loans.

FALL SEMESTER – Fullerton College Student Trustee Pascual Castillo commented on the first week of the fall semester and communication with Cypress College Associated Students regarding upcoming events.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT – Board Member Stephen Blount congratulated Board Member Ryan Bent on his Convocation speech.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS – Board Member Molly McClanahan shared her appreciation for the Board Reports from the college Presidents and Provost.
OPENING DAY EVENTS – Board Member Ryan Bent reflected on the Opening Day events at both Cypress College and Fullerton College.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT – Board Member Barbara Dunsheath recognized Cypress College for its National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education and announced the Cypress College Foundation Golf Classic on October 1, 2018.
STUDENT DEBT – Board Member Jeffrey Brown commented on student loan debt and financial aid resources.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS RECOMMENDATIONS, SERP, AND ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURE – The Board conducted a study session to provide updates on the structural analysis recommendations, Supplemental Early Retirement Program, and organizational restructure. Click here to read the report.
PROMOTIONS – The Board approved the promotions of John Abelon to Fullerton College Financial Aid Technician, effective August 15, 2018; Hugo Flores to Fullerton College Admissions and Records Coordinator, effective August 29, 2018; and Olivia Perez to Fullerton College Administrative Assistant III, effective August 15, 2018.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS – The Board discussed any potential future agenda items.
