Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
ENROLLMENT – Dr. Schilling gave an enrollment update… OPENING DAY – Dr. Schilling reported on the success of the Opening Day festivities… INVESTITURE CEREMONY – Dr. Schilling congratulated Valentina Purtell on her Investiture Ceremony… GUIDED PATHWAYS – The College has started preliminary ad hoc committees to identify four initiatives that will be their focus this semester to support Guided Pathways… DUAL ENROLLMENT AND OUTREACH – Cypress has a new dual enrollment office to focus on dual enrollment and outreach… ACCREDITATION AND OUTREACH – The President reported how the campus had an accreditation pre-visit to prepare for the accreditation visit… AQUASAVE SYSTEM – The President reported that Cypress has cut water usage by 87% since installing the new AquaSave System.

ENROLLMENT – Dr. Schulz reported on current student enrollment… DACA – Dr. Schulz reported how the College is providing support to undocumented students following President Trump’s rescinding of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program… ASSOCIATED STUDENTS – Dr. Schulz reported on how Associated Students is planning activities to foster student engagement… WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT SUMMIT – The Ethnic Studies Department is co-hosting the 3rd-annual Tri-County Women’s Empowerment Summit on September 16… RE-ENRY CONNECT PROGRAM – The President reported on the unique opportunity the Re-entry Connect Program offers students … FOOTBALL – The President congratulated the Football team for winning the Key to the County game…
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
PROVOST INVESTITURE - The Provost thanked everyone involved in her Investiture Ceremony and the NOCE Opening Day festivities… ENROLLMENT – Ms. Purtell reported on current student enrollment… CAMPUS SURVEYS – The Provost reported how they will participate in the District-Coordinated Drop-Out Survey and their own NOCE Stop-Out Survey to gather information as to why students are no longer attending classes… TECHNOLOGY UPDATE – The Provost reported how NOCE is updating technology by the end of this year’s Refresh Project the oldest computers will be three years old… ADVOCACY VISIT – the Provost attended the first of four planned advocacy visits to urge congressional members to reject the budget proposal to cut adult education funding… STUDENT GOVERNMENT – NOCE is offering student leadership opportunities for the 2017/2018 academic year. The deadline to apply for is September 29.

ACADEMIC SENATE MEETING – NOCE Academic Senate President Adam Gottdank reported on the first meeting of the semester and congratulated Valentina Purtell on her investiture ceremony.
CYPRESS ACADEMIC SENATE – Cypress College Academic Senate President Brian Seiling reported on the topics discussed during the first Academic Senate meeting of the year.
FULLERTON ACADEMIC SENATE – Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller reported that the Senate had their mini retreat and first meeting.
UNITED FACULTY MEETING – United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported that the first executive board meeting would be September 13. He also reported on maintaining the work on enrollment efforts.
ADFAC PARTY – Adjunct Faculty United President Kent Stevenson announced the ADFAC party will be held September 22.
Comments by Members of the Board of Trustees
STUDENT GOVERNMENT – Cypress College Student Trustee Daniel Sebastian reported on Cypress student activities and thanked the faculty for their support following the DACA announcement.
FULLERTON STUDENT EVENTS – Fullerton College Student Trustee Andrew Washington reported on the Associated Students elections for Senators, and gave an update on upcoming campus events.
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY – Trustee Stephen T. Blount reported attending the kick-off event for the Leadership Academy program.
OPENING DAY – Trustee Ryan Bent reported attending the Opening Day ceremonies at Fullerton College and NOCE.
DACA - Trustee Ed Lopez thanked those who spoke out on behalf of DACA students.
EVENTS AND DACA – Trustee Barbara Dunsheath invited all to attend the Cypress College Foundation fundraiser Oct. 2. She also expressed her personal support of DACA students.
DACA – Board Vice President Jacqueline Rodarte requested an informational update for the next Board Meeting on how the Colleges and NOCE are supporting DACA students.
The Board held a public hearing on the Proposed 2017-2018 District Budget. Vice Chancellor of Finance & Facilities Fred Williams and Interim Director of Fiscal Affairs Kashu Vyas presented an overview of the proposed budget.
Upon conclusion of the public hearing, the Board adopted the 2017-2018 Proposed Budget, approved the Gann Appropriation Limit, and adopted the resolutions to certify the approval of entering into agreements and any amendments with the California Department of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation (THE RESOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW IN THE DISTRICT'S BUSINESS OFFICE.)
Finance and Facilities
PURCHASE ORDERS AND CHECKS – The Board ratified purchase orders and checks. (THE PURCHASE ORDERS AND CHECKS ARE AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW IN THE DISTRICT'S BUSINESS OFFICE.)
MANDATE BLOCK GRANT – The Board approved opting to participate in the Mandate Block Grant for the fiscal year 2017/18.
CONSULTANT SERVICES AGREEMENT – The Board authorized the request to enter into an agreement with R2A Architecture to provide architectural consultant services.
SODEXO AMERICA CONTRACT EXTENTION – Subsequent to the discussion, it was moved by Trustee Jeffrey P. Brown and seconded by Trustee Stephen T. Blount to postpone the motion indefinitely to allow sufficient time to bring the item back for the Board’s consideration at a future meeting.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE ACQUISITION – The Board authorized the request to increase for the acquisition of the necessary hardware, software, development, licensing, implementation, and support to complete the implementation of the Hardware and Software Acquisition for Adult Education Block Grant Reporting.
CHANGE ORDER REQUEST – The Board ratified the current change orders for the public works projects listed on the Change Order Request.
ANAHEIM PLEDGE – The Board received as information the Commitment Matrix for the Anaheim Union High School District Educational Pledge.
AIFS TRAVEL AGREEMENT – The Board authorized the request to enter into a travel agreement with AIFS for the Cypress College and Fullerton College 2018 Summer Abroad Program in Madrid, Spain.
DENISE SIMPSON DONATION – The Board authorized the request for North Orange Continuing Education to accept a bus shelter and bench donated by Denise Simpson in the amount of $7,100.
RETIREMENT – The Board approved the retirement of Denise Simpson, SCE Director of Disability Support Services, effective December 1.
The next regular meeting of the NOCCCD Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, in the first-floor Board Room, Anaheim Campus, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim.
