FACULTY COMPENSATION – Several faculty members spoke about being paid for single versus multiple lecture sections. Speakers included: Cypress College Biology Professors Dee Sato, Alex Mintzer, Joel Gober and Tony Sanchez. Dale Craig said that he was filing a grievance regarding the issue.
WELFARE AND BENEFITS – Cypress College Nursing Professor Jane Walker addressed the Board about increasing the District’s benefit package for employees’ dependents.
Interim Chancellor’s Report – Fred Williams
RETIREE RECOGNITION – Patricia Kishel, Cypress College Management and Marketing Instructor, and Chrystal Van Beynen, Fullerton College Career Center Coordinator, were honored for their years of service to the District.
CHANCELLOR APPOINTMENT – Mr. Williams welcomed Dr. Cheryl Marshall to the District and congratulated her on her official appointment on tonight’s agenda.
SPECIAL ELECTION RESULTS – The Orange County Registrar of Voters has certified the February 9 special election votes which state that Mr. Steve Blount has been elected as our Trustee for Area 3. He will be officially seated at the March 8 Board meeting.

Cypress College – Dr. Bob Simpson, President
INTERIM DEAN – Dr. Simpson introduced Katy Realista as the Interim Dean of Fine Arts… ACCREDITATION – The College received verbal confirmation that the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs have been fully accredited for the next six years, with no recommendations…ATHLETICS – Men's basketball tied Fullerton College for 2nd place in conference play, and the Women's Basketball Team earned the Orange Empire Conference Championship. Both teams qualify for the state playoffs. Women's Coach Margaret Mohr was also named the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, Interim President
CONGRATULATIONS – Dr. Schulz congratulated Richard Storti, Vice President of Administrative Services, on successfully defending his dissertation…FULLERTON COLLEGE NIGHT AT ANGEL STADIUM – Tickets will go on sale on February 29 for the April 9 Fullerton College Night at Angel Stadium in three ways: at the Student Activities Office in the 200 Building, at the Fullerton College Foundation Office, and on the Angels baseball website.
School of Continuing Education – Martha Gutierrez, Dean of Instruction and Student Services
FIRST EL CAMINO HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE – Cherish Bockman is the first SCE-El Camino High School Lab graduate, and is now a student at Fullerton College. The El Camino High School Lab is the second off-site lab for SCE, and opened in 2015...FULLERTON COLLEGE TRANSITION CLASS – A Transitioning to Fullerton College course will be offered as part of the SCE High School Lab Program curriculum at the Wilshire Center, beginning in April. A similar course has been offered at the SCE Cypress Center for several years...SCE ASSISTS IN NONCREDIT DEVELOPMENT – With guidance from ESL Program Director Jorge Gamboa, Irvine Valley College successfully launched their first noncredit ESL certificate.
Comments by Members of the Resource Table
BOOK SELECTION – District Management Association President Richard Fee announced that the group has selected “Redesigning America’s Community Colleges” as their book to read this year. He thanked Interim Chancellor Fred Williams for generously providing copies to their membership.
WELCOME TO DR. MARSHALL – Several resource table members extended their welcome to incoming Chancellor Dr. Cheryl Marshall, who was in attendance at tonight’s meeting. Well-wishers included: Adam Gottdank, Pete Snyder, Tina Johannsen, Rod Lusch, and Kent Stevenson.
SCE ACTIVITIES – SCE Academic Senate President Adam Gottdank reported on several recent activities, including: continuing progress of the WASC focus group, the Cypress College and Fullerton College Academic Senate meetings, and SCE’s new facilities on Euclid.
RESOLUTION TO RAISE SALARIES – Cypress College Academic Senate President Jolena Grande read into the minutes the group’s formal resolution to raise faculty salaries.
HONORARY DEGREE – Fullerton College Faculty Senate President Pete Snyder stated that the College has awarded an honorary degree to student Peter Gonzales, who passed away in fall 2015.
UNITED FACULTY – Tina Johannsen, United Faculty President, informed the Board of faculty’s recent attendance at the California Community College Association Convention, and of the upcoming United Faculty membership event at Cypress College.
CSEA LEADERSHIP CHANGES – California School Employee Association President Rod Lusch announced that former CSEA first vice president Ben Valdepena has now assumed the position of Association President at the State level. Former President Michael Bilbrey had to resign for personal reasons.
Comments by Members of the Board of Trustees
CYPRESS COLLEGE STUDENT ACTIVITIES – Cypress College Student Trustee Tanya Billings reported on various campus activities, including: Adam Gottdank’s presentation on “Universal Design,” Student Equity meeting, Black Student Union planning meeting, and the Black History Month Speaker Series.
LAB UNIT COMPENSATION – Fullerton College Student Trustee Francisco Aviles Pino asked the District to please look into the faculty’s stated issues regarding lab unit compensation.
“PLASTICS UNWRAPPED” – Board Vice President Molly McClanahan promoted a new Fullerton Museum exhibit entitled “Plastics Unwrapped,” about how material culture was changed by plastics.
RETIREE LUNCHEON – Trustee Leonard Lahtinen shared that the Fullerton College Foundation will host their annual Retiree Luncheon this weekend. He also thanked Debbie Ludford for her help with the online feedback form for the Chancellor Candidates forum, and shared comments on the Summer 4/10 schedule.
AMERICANA – Trustee Jeffrey Brown and Board President Dr. Barbara Dunsheath reminded everyone of Cypress College’s Americana event this Saturday.
HABITS OF MIND – Dr. Dunsheath also reported on her attendance at a 3CSN event on Habits of Mind and shared that the North Orange County League of Women Voters will host workshops in March to discuss the national League of Women Voters recent study on higher education.
Finance & Facilities
TRANSFERS – The Board authorized a request to transfer funds to the District’s irrevocable trust, administered by Keenan & Associates and the FUTURIS Public Entity Investment Trust Program. The Board also recognized a transfer to the Bond Fund for bond projects and program management expenses and adopt a resolution to adjust budgets and authorize expenditures within the Bond Fund.
NEW REVENUE – The Board granted retroactive authorization to accept new revenue for the Cypress College Career Technical Education Teacher Pipeline Grant, beginning January 4, 2016.
EOPS FUNDS – The Board authorized a request for the Fullerton College Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Department to expend $5,000 from the EOPS State budget allocation as in previous years, as well as $5,000 in College EOPS Student Equity Funds for its 2016 recognition ceremony.
RETIREMENT – The Board approved the retirement of David Wassenaar, Cypress College Dean of Business & CIS, effective July 1.
TRUSTEE ABSENCES – The Board adopted resolutions verifying the absences of M. Tony Ontiveros, Molly McClanahan, and Student Trustees Francisco Aviles Pino and Tanya Washington, from the Special Board Meeting on February 11, 2016.

The next regular meeting of the NOCCCD Board of Trustees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the first-floor Board Room, Anaheim Campus, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim.
