Application
Strategy
Here's a good
way to manage your application process.
Plan
ahead. Learn what is required. Envision all of the steps
you will need to perform. Get an idea of how you will accomplish
them. |
Make a
checklist of the key requirements we have outlined in the job
announcement. Include detailed check-off items for any materials
you will be requesting from others, such as transcripts or
references. |
Give
yourself deadline dates for intermediate goals. This is crucial
if you need to obtain transcripts or letters of recommendation.
You must request these early enough to allow time for the person
or organization to respond to you. |
Be ready
to follow-up quickly on your requests. |
Do enough
research so that if you do need to contact us, you will have
a foundation of information. The better informed you are to
start with, the more we can help you. |
Follow
all instructions carefully. Generally, it is a good idea to read
through the entire application before you start filling it out.
Information or questions you see towards the end of the
application might help you make better responses in the
beginning of the application. |
Keep a
copy of all of your materials. The District will not return or
make photocopies of application materials. |

| Tips for
Applicants

These
suggestions apply to all applicants, focused on how to prepare your
materials. These instructions
are also available as a downloadable and printable PDF file. [PDF

| General |
Review
the job announcement carefully. In addition to the standard job
application form, resume and educational transcripts,
supplementary information such as a listing of relevant course
work, portfolio materials, etc., may be required. If requested,
be sure to include this supplemental information with your
application package. |
If the
job announcement requires the submission of letters of
recommendation, be sure that they are either included with your
application package or submitted so that they will be received
by the District Office of Human Resources prior to the closing
date. |
Use 20# -
24# white or off-white paper and standard font size (11pt -
12pt) and style (Arial, Times New Roman) for your cover
letter and resume. Avoid flowery font styles or sizes; your
cover letter and resume are professional documents and should
look that way. |
Make sure
all materials are grammatically correct and neatly presented. |
Follow a
standard style guide that is appropriate for your discipline (MLA,
APA, Chicago,
etc.). |

screening committee. The appearance of this document is critical

Clearly
relate your experience to the "required"
qualifications of the position and as many of the
"desirable" qualifications as possible; |
Provide
examples from background and experience to demonstrate how your
knowledge and expertise apply to the position; and |
Explain
special educational programs in which you have participated,
either as a student or teacher. |
| Resume |
| The
format of your resume should be well organized and easy to read,
with important information such as education and academic
experience at the top of the first page where it can easily be
found. |
| Your
resume should be limited to not more than three pages, if
possible, and should: |
Include
information about your education, teaching experience and/or
related academic experience, special training, publications,
conference presentations, professional activities and academic
affiliations; |
Specify
other qualifications and experience relevant to the position; |
Provide a
chronological listing of your previous employment, including a
description of positions held, names of employers, period of
employment, and whether the position was full-time or part-time; |
List
names, addresses and telephone numbers of references.Your list
of references should include both colleagues and supervisors |

| Instructions
to Applicants for Academic Positions
This document
contains additional general instructions important to the applicant
for academic positions. There are other important specific
instructions found in the job announcement. These
instructions are also available as a downloadable PDF file. [PDF
version]
| The
Board of Trustees and staff of the NOCCCD are pleased that you are interested in
submitting an application for employment with the District. |
| To
assist you in the application process, the following
instructions are provided. Please read all instructions before
you begin to complete the application. |
| 1. |
Complete
all sections of the District application form, even if the
entries duplicate information in your resume or other
documentation. Resumes and other documents are NOT accepted in
lieu of the information requested on the application form. The
application form must be completed in its entirety to be
considered valid. Please print or type all entries. Indicate
"N.A." on any section that is not applicable. Sign and
date the form. |
The
application form is the first document to be reviewed by the
hiring committee and is used as part of the screening process.
The appear- ance of this document is critical and should
represent your best effort. |
| 2. |
Submit
the completed application form and: |
A letter of
interest which addresses your qualifications relevant to
the position. |
A resume
describing your educational background, work experience
and teaching or other related academic experience. |
Graduate and
undergraduate college transcripts. (Unofficial transcripts
are acceptable for submission with your application;
however, they must be legible and complete.) |
Other materials
or information requested in the job announcement. |
With the
exception of letters of recommendation (if requested in the job
announcement), all application materials must be submitted with
the District application form as a complete package. Loose
materials submitted independently of the application package
will not be accepted. |
It is
preferred that letters of recommendation, if requested, be
submitted with the application package. However,
if this is not possible, letters of recommendation may be
submitted under separate cover, but must be received by the
closing date. Letters of recommendation submitted independently
of the application package must reference the job number. |
Applicants
bear the sole responsibility for the submission of application
materials and for ensuring that the application package is
complete when submitted. Incomplete application packages will
not be considered. |
| 3. |
Avoid any
reference to race, sex, color, religion, age, national origin,
disability, marital status, veteran status, or sexual
orientation. |
| 4.
If
you wish to apply for more than one position (different job
numbers), you must complete and submit a separate application
package for each position. |
| 5. |
Unless
otherwise provided in the job announcement, all submitted
materials become the property of the NOCCCD. Submitted materials will not be
returned, will not be copied, and will be considered only in
conjunction with the position for which they were submitted. The
District Office of Human Resources does not retrieve documents from
personnel files or previously submitted application
packets.Current employees may call for an appointment to see
their personnel files and have copies made of selected
documents. |
| 6. |
All
required application materials, including letters of
recommendation (if requested), must be received in the District
Office of Human Resources by the closing date listed on the job
announcement. Postmarks will not be honored. The District does
NOT accept application materials by FAX. Materials received
after the closing deadline will not be accepted. |
| 7. |
Application
materials received by the closing deadline specified in the job
announcement will be forwarded to the screening committee.
Candidates selected for further consideration by the committee
will be required to appear before the committee for an interview
and possible testing, demonstrations, etc. A second interview
may be required of candidates selected as finalists. Possession
of the minimum qualifications does not ensure an interview. |
| 8. |
Offers of
employment are contingent upon approval by the Board of
Trustees. Quotations regarding initial salary placement are not
valid unless confirmed in writing by the District Director of
Human Resources. Upon employment, fingerprinting and a
criminal background check will be conducted, and verification of
identity, authorization to work in the United States, and
official transcripts and verification of experience will be
required. |
