District Printing and Design Department

The District Printing and Design Department provides a broad range of design and printing services to the entire District, utilizing efficient, state of the art equipment and the skills of a highly-experienced staff to produce publications of the highest possible quality. The Department also manages all District mail pick up and delivery, interacting with the U.S. Post Office and bulk mail handling businesses, and provides a courier and small package delivery service to the various District sites.

The Printing and Design Department is committed to the following principles:

  • Always offer a full-service response to the customer.
  • Provide a level of service and quality equal to the best that can be found in private industry.
  • Ensure the lowest possible cost to the customer by keeping production and design in-house, maintaining and improving equipment within available resources, and working creatively with customers to create cost-effective publications.
  • Build a cohesive team of talented, dedicated staff, who work cooperatively to achieve the Department's goals.
  • Challenge the Department as a whole, and each individual on staff, to "stretch their craft" and consistently learn and practice new techniques in their respective fields of expertise.

Projects produced by the Printing and Design Department may range from a relatively small run of 200 photocopies of a syllabus or flyer to a run of 350,000 pieces that may be distributed to all residents and businesses in the District. The Department is equipped to produce high quality 4-color process projects, as well as simple one color or black and white pieces. Two graphic designers are on staff and available to assist with design and layout. Typical projects include brochures, posters, sports publications, direct mail pieces, catalogs and business cards. Specialty projects such as high-end art catalogs, campus magazines, and invitations are also produced.

The Printing and Design Department has won numerous awards recognizing the quality of various projects produced cooperatively with the colleges and School of Continuing Education. The walls of the department are lined with PRO awards from the Community College Public Relations Organization, and Medallion and Paragon awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. The Department is especially proud of awards received from the American Association of Museums in its Museum Publications Design Competition, in which major museums, large universities, and the Smithsonian Institute participate.
