The
North Orange County Community College District spans a large breadth of
geography, and sweeps across an area of rich diversity in population,
business activity and civic life.
Bounded on the east by the Anaheim Hills
and the 91 Freeway corridor, its northern boundary runs along the
foothills above Yorba Linda, Tonner Pass, and the avocado-rich hills above
La Habra Heights. To the west (from north to south) are the communities of
Buena Park, La Palma, Cypress, Los Alamitos, and Seal Beach. Continuing
counterclockwise, the southern boundary includes Huntington Beach, Garden
Grove and Orange.
Neatly
bisecting the district territory in both directions are major freeways: 57
running north/south and 91 running east/west. The 5 freeway also runs
diagonally through the district. The 22 freeway runs east/west along the
lower portion of the district and the district also has portions of the 55
freeway within its boundaries.
Our district area is home to a widely
diverse range of businesses, from the Disney Resort to aerospace research and
manufacturing facilities.

cities inside and adjacent to the district, see Government

Lifestyle and Recreation
If
you are considering NOCCCD as an employer and live outside the area, or if
you are a prospective international student, you probably already know
that our weather is mild and pleasant most days of the year. There are
many recreational resources right in the community area. There are major
parks in most of the constituent communities. Even though most of the
district would be considered suburban, there are convenient opportunities
to immerse yourself in nature. The
beach
is 30 - 45 minutes away from most district locations. Many people enjoy
birdwatching in the Bolsa Chica wetlands in Huntington Beach. Joggers,
cyclists, and hikers enjoy the paths along the Santa Ana river. From
numerous entry points in the district, you can go north or south for many
miles of exploration and enjoyment. There are equestrian paths in the
foothills of Fullerton. And, if you like the excitement of G-forces,
Disneyland, California Adventure, and Knotts Berry Farm theme parks are
within the district.
Housing
Like most California community colleges,
our campuses do not have residential facilities. Most of our students
already live within our service area and find it convenient to commute to
the campus. If you are a prospective international student or are from
outside the area, you are responsible for making your own housing
arrangements.
Student Services areas at Fullerton College
and Cypress College have bulletin boards with information on housing, which
could include: rentals, rooms for rent, apartments for rent, roommates
wanted, and roommates available

campus Web sites that present student services:

Here are some other suggestions.
- It is always a good idea to use local
contacts where possible. If you have a friend who lives in the
district, they can be your "eyes" and "ears."
- Local newspapers are helpful. The Orange
County Register and the The Los Angeles Times - Orange County
Edition, are the major daily newspapers in the District area. Both
list housing rentals in their classified ad section.
- Popular Web sites. Be aware that these
sites emphasize occupancies in large commercial apartment buildings.
They may have lots of amenities, but may be more expensive. To share a
house or apartment you will get better results by researching the
postings on the campus bulletin boards and by looking in local
newspapers.
